Big Star Way (Reprise)

The Song

Recorded at Cow Pilot Studios in Gilbert, Arizona.

If Big Star Way is about Roswell and Corona events, then Big Star Way reprise is about our philosophy regarding the possibility that there may be civilizations in the universe beyond our comprehension. But it goes beyond this precept and full circle - it is about how we treat others who are different from ourselves, or have a different philosophy, race, or religion.

We must not allow our technology to become more important than all else in our lives, and it wouldn't hurt for us to look at the splendor of the world through our own experience, not through the lens of technology.

My favorite television program of all time is the 1960s production called The Outer Limits. In that series of well-written, well-produced episodes, the premiere episode is one of the finest. And it is the "control voice" that offers the philosophy we all need to adopt toward others;

"The planet Earth is a speck of dust, remote and alone in the void. There are powers in the universe inscrutable and profound. Fear cannot save us; rage cannot help us. We must see the stranger in a new light; the light of understanding. And to achieve this, we must begin to understand ourselves, and each other."

- Joseph Stephano

The Recording Process

Well, this was a very simple one. I was playing around with the two chords that comprise the song, and it just sort of "came about." I recorded it right away. Then, I felt it needed some electric guitar, so I gave it to Anthony, who blew me away with his parts.

The Lyrics

Look above to the ancient skies
Distant travelers beyond the stars
Big machines in the human mind
Our technology will bring us down.

Big Star Way

Hold the torch to the open skies
Like a beacon in the human heart
We must learn to recognize
See the stranger in a newer light.
