Oh No

The Song

Recorded at First Wave Digital Studios in Hempstead, NY and Cow Pilot Studios in Gilbert, Arizona.

"Oh No" was actually recorded around the same time as Gilgamesh, but I liked it so much that I decided to put it on this album. The song makes a reference to an ancient Babylonian myth ("kill the son for the blood on the moon"), but it's a fleeting one. Anyway, I just liked the feel of it. Also, one of my favorite Brian Eno songs is "On Some Far Away Beach," the title of which I used for the lyric of this song. While I'm at it, there's an old Genesis song called "The Silent Sun," of which I did the same. I'm sure Mr. Eno or the guys in Genesis will never hear this, but if they do, I hope they forgive me.

The Recording Process

This was, as I mentioned previously, recorded around the time I recorded Gilgamesh, so the original tracks were on the ADAT. Anthony transferred those tracks to digital for me when he was working for Steve Vai, and I brought them into Pro Tools to remix them for this album. This is one of the few mixes I did that we actually used for the album, and it's one of which I'm pretty happy with.

The Lyrics

Learning to wait for the silent sun
Oh No!
Having to wait for the finer things
Oh No!
Holding on to you - Oh No!

Time to regret what they've done for me
Oh No!
Emptiness is such a silent thing
Oh No!
Holding on to you - I don't know

Sitting here on some far away beach
Learning to burn up without you
Kill the son for the blood on the moon
Learning to dance without you

Searching the waves on a quiet June
Oh No!
Tap out a tune on a vacant log
Oh No!
Holding on to you - Oh No!

Sitting here on some far away beach
Learning to burn up without you
Kill the son for the blood on the moon
Learning to dance without you
